Legatum Publishing is attending the Institut ILIADE colloquium in Paris

We are delighted to be a part of this prestigious event and look forward to engaging with fellow enthusiasts and experts in the field.

Legatum Publishing is proud to announce our upcoming attendance at the Institut ILIADE colloquium in Paris, the 15. of April. This year, we will be accompanied by our esteemed author and artist Markus Andersson, who will be showcasing his latest works inspired by ancient mythology and the rich cultural heritage of Europe.

The Institut ILIADE is a leading cultural organization that aims to promote and preserve the traditional values of Western civilization. The annual colloquium brings together scholars, artists, and thinkers from around the world to explore the cultural and historical legacy of Europe.

Legatum Publishing has always been committed to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of Europe through our books and publications.

Markus Andersson’s works are a perfect fit for the Institut ILIADE colloquium, as they embody the essence of traditional European culture and mythology. His paintings are a unique blend of classical techniques and contemporary style, and they evoke the spirit of ancient myths and legends.

At the colloquium, Markus Andersson will be showcasing some selected works, which includes stunning depictions of Eugen Schauman, and other historical or mythological figures. His works offer a fresh and innovative perspective on the traditional stories of Europe, and we are thrilled to have him represent Legatum Publishing at the event.

En hjälte - Eugen Schauman” (A hero - Eugen Schauman) oil on canvas, 2022. 60x90 cm

En hjälte – Eugen Schauman” (A hero – Eugen Schauman) oil on canvas, 2022. 60×90 cm

On 16 June 1904, Eugene shot the Russian Governor General Bobrikov on a staircase in Helsinki. Eugene opposed the oppressive Russian occupation of Finland. Bobrikov, more than anyone else, personified this oppression. Resistance to this superior power was not very developed at that time. On the contrary, there was a policy of appeasement towards Russia.
Eugen Schauman belonged to the Finnish-Swedish minority in Finland, a minority that had been there since the Middle Ages. His heart burned for Finland and for Finland’s independence. He decided to do something on his own that would make a difference. And so he did. After the attack on Bobrikov, Eugen Schauman shot himself because he knew that otherwise he would be arrested and tortured, and there was a risk that he would reveal his friends. At the time of his death, he was only 27 years old.”

"Framtida legend” (Future legend) oil on canvas, 2015. 6

“Framtida legend” (Future legend) oil on canvas, 2015. 64×88 cm.

This oil painting is part of a series where the artist Magdalena Nordin was the model. However this is not a portrait of Magdalena Nordin. She is like an actress in this painting. The woman in the picture is perhaps desperate, yet at the same time she is decisive. She has decided to commit some kind of action, we do not know what, but she is probably going to fight to the end considering the strength she exudes. Maybe a modern, future Jeanne d’Arc or something similar.
Markus Andersson has exhibited his art in previous collaboration with Legatum Publishing on the Vargtid exhibition, January this year in Oslo. He brought many powerful paintings that moved the audience.

As a publisher dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional European culture, we believe that events like the Institut ILIADE colloquium are crucial for keeping our cultural heritage alive and relevant. We are proud to be a part of this vibrant community and look forward to contributing to the ongoing conversation about the legacy of Europe.

We invite all attendees of the Institut ILIADE colloquium to visit our booth and view Markus Andersson’s remarkable works. We believe that his art will inspire and captivate all those who appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Europe.
